Learning Through Enquiry Alliance

Centre for Excellence in Enquiry-Based Learning

The Centre for Excellence in Enquiry-Based Learning (CEEBL) at The University of Manchester is committed to the principle that enquiry-led learning is the most natural, creative and effective method of learning.

Inside CEEBL

CEEBL's initial aim is to promote the development of Enquiry-Based Learning across all four faculties of the university (Engineering and Physical Sciences; Humanities; Life Sciences; Medical and Human Sciences). CEEBL intends to make a lasting impact on the learning of students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to embed Enquiry-Based Learning in the Learning and Teaching strategies of all faculties.

To this end, CEEBL is funding one major project in each of the faculties, together with a raft of smaller projects across all faculties and other agencies (e.g. Widening Participation). Students are themselves actively involved in the work of CEEBL through a scheme of student sabbatical officers and student interns.

CEEBL has as its second principal aim that of developing the research basis for Enquiry-Based Learning through an extensive programme of dissemination. A range of activities is being put in place, including workshops, external seminars, conference presentations, publications online and in journal and book form, and hosted conferences. CEEBL is encouraging all participants in its work (including students) to become actively involved with dissemination. The CEEBL website will become an essential research resource for work on Enquiry-Based Learning.
